Air Transat unveils its winter 2017-18 flight program
The airline has added two new destinations: Tampa, in Florida, and San Juan, in Puerto Rico

Montreal, May 11, 2017 – Today, Air Transat unveils its winter 2017-18 flight program, which offers travellers 36 Sun destinations from 22 Canadian cities, in addition to a wide range of the most popular European destinations. Canada’s leading holiday travel airline, Air Transat has added two new destinations for the winter — Tampa, in Florida, and San Juan, in Puerto Rico — from Montreal and Toronto. Thanks to increased capacity on many of its flights and the introduction of 10 new routes, Air Transat will give even more travellers the opportunity to escape the harsh winter.

“Sun vacations are popular with Canadians every year, which is why Air Transat is thrilled to offer two new destinations this year to quench their wanderlust,” explains Annick Guérard, President and General Manager of Transat Tours Canada.

“First, we’ll be offering flights to Tampa, a city that is already well-known among Canadian travellers. Tampa boasts lots of great restaurants, not to mention outdoor activities and, of course, beautiful beaches. We will also be flying to San Juan, one of the oldest cities in America. With its spectacular beaches and picturesque colourful buildings, the island of Puerto Rico will surely appeal to travellers in search of history, culture and relaxation. These new destinations, known as popular ports of embarkation for adventures at sea, will serve as departure points for many new cruise packages.”

Sun destinations, from 22 Canadian cities

Air Transat offers sun and surf to Canadians, with flights from several major cities, as well as many regional airports. And thanks to the introduction of new routes and additional flights, travellers will have even more flexibility to vacation wherever they’d like.

Sun worshippers will be happy to learn that the daily flights to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) and Cancun (Mexico) from Toronto and Montreal, as well as those to Cuba from Vancouver, will begin earlier this year, in November.

In recent years, Canadian travellers’ interest in Central America has been growing, which is why Air Transat has added flights to some of its most popular destinations, increasing them from one to two a week. More flights have been added from Toronto to Managua (Nicaragua), Roatan (Honduras) and Liberia (Costa Rica); while from Montreal, flights to Liberia and San Salvador (El Salvador) have been increased.

Following the great success of the direct flight to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) from Toronto last winter, the Dominican capital will now be available from Montreal. From Quebec City, two flights a week to Cayo Coco (Cuba) will now be offered. Thanks to its domestic flights between Montreal and Rouyn-Noranda, Air Transat will fly travellers from Abitibi-Témiscamingue to their favourite destinations among nine countries in the Caribbean and Central America.

In Ontario, new flights will be offered to Punta Cana from Sault Ste. Marie and to Samana from Ottawa.

In British Columbia, travellers in and around Vancouver will be happy to learn that there will be an increase in flight frequency to several destinations in Mexico: Los Cabos (two flights), Puerto Vallarta (five flights) and Cancun (three flights). Travellers from Kelowna will now have the opportunity to fly to Punta Cana, a destination whose popularity keeps growing over the years.

Europe year-round with Air Transat

More present than ever before in the transatlantic market, Air Transat increases its flights to the United Kingdom from Toronto by now offering two flights a week to Manchester and Glasgow,
in addition to continuing its year-round daily flights to London. A weekly flight to London is
also scheduled from Vancouver during the holidays, before the resumption of regular service in April.

Travellers in search of some sun will be able to get away to Portugal from Toronto, with four flights a week to Lisbon, one to Porto and one to Faro during peak season.

Winter or summer, Paris remains a popular destination, and Air Transat will continue to offer daily flights from Montreal. As of December 17, a weekly flight to the City of Light will be available from Quebec City during the holidays and then again, as of February.

Travellers from Montreal looking to get away will be able to do so thanks to Air Transat’s two direct flights a week to Malaga on the Costa del Sol in Spain, as well as its weekly flights to Lisbon and Faro, in Portugal. These sunny destinations are very popular with Canadian travellers, especially since they combine relaxation with exploration and are perfect for both long and short stays.

Lastly, Air Transat will continue its domestic flight program between Montreal and Toronto this winter, making more transatlantic destinations available to travellers from these cities thanks to connecting flights.
