Planning a trip to Canada? Travellers without a valid Canadian passport, permanent resident card or visa require an Electronic Travel Authorization

Montreal, May 9, 2017 — Air Transat would like to remind travellers who are planning a trip to Canada that those who do not have a valid Canadian passport, permanent resident card or visa require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) from the Government of Canada. This new entry requirement, mandatory as of November 10, 2016, is for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air.

Before going to Canada, travellers must request an eTA by filling out an application form online, at Canada.ca/eta. This document will be required at departure, before boarding the plane, along with a valid passport.

eTA eligible applicants must have a valid passport, email address and credit card (the eTA costs CA $7) to complete the online form. Most applicants get their eTA approval within minutes.

Air Transat strongly recommends that eligible travellers apply for the eTA when booking their flight and check on the status of their application on the Government of Canada’s official website, at Canada.ca/eta. It also recommends that travellers present themselves at the check-in counters at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.

Please note that holders of a valid Canadian passport, Canadian Permanent Resident Card (PRC) or Canadian visa, as well as U.S. citizens, are ineligible for an eTA and must present their original documents for travel.
